Plenty of floral notes on the aromatics, this is tasty, a little austere, with tight tannins but underpinned by silky texture and attractive blueberry and blackberry fruits, and a juicy edge. A yield of 41 hl/ha, 50% new oak. Eric Boissenot consultant. Jean-Philippe Quié is technical director, harvest September 11-29.

The 2020 Croizet-Bages has a slightly pinched nose at first, opening with aeration to reveal blackberry, blueberry and light sea spray/seaweed scents, not a million miles away from the recently tasted 2018 in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and a fine bead of acidity. What you might describe as a gentle Pauillac, harmonious on the crisp finish. Croizet-Bages continues its improved run of form.
